Thanks to the rise of small action cameras, camera stabilizers (aka gimbals) are becoming more portable than ever. Amazon has plenty of these coming from random Chinese brands, but most are either poorly designed, or only a partial solution to your problem. For instance, they often lack a handset mount for those who need a live screen. There are also gimbals that use smartphones as the camera, but I’ve yet to come across one with raving reviews; the current options appear to be more of a nuisance due to their awkward calibration and erratic stabilization. So unless you’ve tried one and are certain that it works well with your phone, your best bet is to go with a dedicated camera gimbals.

CINEMATIC SMARTPHONE VIDEO

Osmo Mobile turns your smartphone into a smart motion camera, making every moment you shoot look smooth, professional and ready to share. Shoot cinematic videos anytime, or use its intelligent functions to track your subject, capture stunning motion timelapses or even stream a moment live around the globe. Two colors are available: Classic Black and Silver, so your Osmo Mobile can match your style.

BE IN THE MOMENT

ActiveTrack technology built into the DJI GO app allows the Osmo Mobile to automatically keep your smartphone facing you as you move. You no longer have to choose between recording a moment or taking part in it. Do both and share scenes from your life that people have never seen.

Take 1-second long exposures without a tripod for sharp night shots. With 3-axis stabilization, the Osmo Mobile will keep your phone steady. Place the Osmo Mobile on its tripod and point it up at the sky to capture stunning star trails that are ready for instant sharing.

In terms of full-featured gimbals, we have only two compelling options so far. The first one is the Aetho’s Aeon, which takes a GoPro and has its own display, but it won’t arrive until early next year. This leaves us with DJI’s latest creation, the Osmo, which we first saw back in January. This device features a 4K camera module similar to the one on the company’s flagship drone, the Inspire 1, and it can house your smartphone as a viewfinder on the side. But it isn’t just about the hardware, because like the company’s drones, the Osmo also has a full-featured companion app for greater versatility. Let’s see if this fancy package is worthy of its 2383.71 AED price.

REIMAGINE MOVEMENT

Motion without blur. Action shots without shake. Perfect video even when you move. Thanks to advanced technologies specifically designed to keep the camera flat no matter how you move it, the DJI Osmo helps you record videos and take photos like never before. It is much more than just a camera. It helps you create with more freedom than ever.

LIVE STREAMING

Share moments using YouTube Live and Facebook Live inside DJI GO. Every stream you shoot will be steady and smooth, as if you have your own personal camera crew.

DETAILED PANORAMAS

Take big, detailed landscape photos you will want to frame using only your smartphone and the Osmo Mobile. Its Panorama function automatically captures and blends 9 separate photos together to create one stunning photo.
